Better Lives Project

We run two advice surgeries a week for residents of Summerston Acre Local Housing Organisation, funded by Glasgow Housing Association. The aim is to maximise tenants’ income, increase their money-management skills, and enhance their employability prospects. In the long-term this will help to sustain tenancies and therefore significantly reduce the social, economic and health problems associated with poverty.

Part of the project involves providing tenants with specialist money, welfare, budgeting, and employability advice and information. We focus on improving financial capability, maximising income, and providing information about volunteering as a way for tenants to increase their social networks, confidence, and employability skills and prospects.

Our advisers also refer tenants to a bespoke energy advice service based in the Bureau, which specialises in long-term fuel debt. We also publicise similar Summerston Acre Local Housing Organisation work on energy advice, and refer clients as appropriate to help increase the use of this local service.
