Alphaeus' Story:
Alphaeus started volunteering with Glasgow North West Citizens Advice Bureau in 2011 and continued to do so when he was studying law at University. He got a volunteer role with CAB through Careers Scotland (now Skills Development Scotland) to supplement his degree and also use his transferable skills to serve the community.
When he came to GNWCAB, he completed an intense 8 week training course before starting to assist on cases as part of the Tribunals team. He built up his experience while studying and after graduation, joined the team on a full time basis.
"Working with GNWCAB gave me an advantage as I had always wanted to study law. Tribunal representation provided me with an introduction to my legal career path as the exposure to tribunals gave me the real life experience of the courtroom. The process has not only improved my communication skills through interviewing clients and drafting letters but also my confidence in researching and presenting cases."
Alphaeus is now our full-time Representation Coordinator and has also been working with Citizens Advice Scotland and the Scottish Government on Green Deal mis-selling cases. He has supported thousands of people who have had their claims rejected to get what they are entitled to.
To date, he has returned well over £9 million back to the northwest Glasgow community, and this year celebrated his 10th year at GNWCAB!
